During this course students will learn how to prepare risk reduction plans and discuss their integration into sectoral developmental programs; analyze issues and challenges in the implementation of community based risk reduction and climate change adaptation programs, discuss areas of professional development; and build commitment and value systems to promote community empowerment for climate-inclusive community risk reduction.

The learning outcomes for the module are as follows:

  1. Describe the influence of mitigation, preparation, response and recovery on natural hazards in a community context
  2. Discuss and propose solutions to complex problems in disaster risk reduction.
  3. Compare and critically analyze recent disasters caused by natural events.
